Tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 13th, is the last day of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.  It is always kind of a downer to know that the last day of the festivities has arrived!  There is something so magical about looking up into the sky and seeing brightly colored gigantic balloons flying overhead…it speaks of freedom, wonder, creativity, whimsy, fun, delight in childrens’ eyes, maybe even a day off from work!! Following are a few photos of how it looked one day this week from our back porch when the winds favored us by sending a bunch of balloons our way…

…the sun peeking over our mountains on a pretty hazy morning…

…they synchronize the balloons, usually about 600 to 800 of them! for take-off…

…the view of the balloons as they head North, with the Sandia Mtns in the background

…it looks like the sun is beginning to burn off the haziness…

they are getting closer!!

a special shape…Darth Vader!!!

…always fun!!!

this balloon flew right overhead and landed by a neighbor’s house…the dirigibles look like artworks painted in the sky!

…a favorite memory…years ago, I homeschooled our four children and we had a wonderful time “chasing” balloons all over our neighborhood and our fair city!!  strangely enough, that was the way we discovered one of our sons was color-blind!!  The balloons often used the field behind our house, which was in Abq. at the time, to land in…memories!!
