This is the week of the much anticipated Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.  The balloons, a beautiful sight to behold, have been participating in the many events… the peeps have been up before the crack of dawn, wrapped up in layers of warm clothing for the early morning festivities down at the balloon field (or just in their jammies on their back patios, like us!)…it’s a great time of the year!

This is also the week of the San Ysidro Church Art Show in Corrales, NM…and it is a lovely event!  This is my favorite show of the year!  why?  I think because of the setting…an historic church, converted to a building which all can use…in the lovely village of Corrales, a rural area plopped right down on the north side of the bustling city of Albuquerque.

I also love this show because they often show artwork that would be considered abstract…or at least contemporary, in theme…that means my artwork has a better chance of getting in the show than other shows allow for…usually, anyway!
One of my artworks was accepted into the show this year (yayyy!)…as well as the artwork of several friends…as always it is a wonderful eclectic mix of media, techniques, sizes, etc…always fun!!

this is the church…isn’t it beautiful?!!!

the next photo shows the reason that the art show is held annually…the monies collected are used to maintain the church bldg…the stucco exterior is very susceptible to deterioration due to weather…so each year volunteers re-apply that protective stucco as was done historically…you can see that the damage this year was quite extensive…much rain, which is a blessing as it refills the aquifer and the Rio Grande River…we need the water, sometimes desperately!  …but the rains also can create problems…

some of the attendees at the reception…you can see that the interior of the church bldg. is equally as lovely as the exterior…
